Trusting God in the Growing: Proverbs 3:5–6

There’s something sacred about the process of growing.

At The Blackwell Farm, we’ve learned that flowers don’t bloom overnight. Seeds don’t sprout on our schedule. And no matter how carefully we plan, the land still has a way of reminding us that we are not fully in control.

And honestly? That’s where faith meets farming.

One of the verses that continues to guide our hearts in this journey is:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

This scripture isn’t just something we read — it’s something we live, especially out here in the fields.

Farming Teaches You to Let Go

When you’re growing flowers, you can do everything “right” and still face challenges:

• unexpected weather

• delayed blooms

• pests and diseases

• poor soil in certain areas

• seasons that don’t cooperate

There are moments we’ve stood in the garden and wondered,

“Lord, how is this going to work?”

And that’s when Proverbs 3:5–6 becomes more than a verse — it becomes an invitation.

An invitation to stop leaning on our own understanding… and start leaning into God’s.

Because the truth is, farming humbles you. It teaches you that you can plant faithfully, water consistently, and still need Heaven’s help for the harvest.

Trusting God With the “In Between” Seasons

At The Blackwell Farm, we’ve come to love the “in between.”

The quiet mornings before the sun rises. The days when nothing looks like it’s happening… but deep in the soil, growth is taking place.

Faith works the same way.

Sometimes, God is doing His greatest work in the seasons when you don’t see the results yet. When you feel behind. When you feel uncertain. When your plans aren’t unfolding the way you expected.

But this verse in Proverbs reminds us to Trust Him anyway.

Even when it doesn’t make sense.

Even when you can’t see the whole picture.

Even when you’re tired.

Because God doesn’t just care about the outcome — He cares about the process and the person you become while you wait.

“He Will Direct Your Paths” — Even in the Dirt

The most beautiful part of Proverbs 3:5–6 is the promise at the end:

“…and He shall direct your paths.”

Not might.

Not maybe.

He shall.

God directs us in the everyday decisions:

• what to plant and when

• what to let go of

• what to rebuild

• how to serve our community well

• how to grow with integrity, not pressure

The Blackwell Farm didn’t start as a perfect plan. It started as a small seed of a dream — one that God watered through time, obedience, and faith.

And even now, we’re still growing into what He’s calling this farm to be.

A Farm Rooted in Purpose

Flowers are beautiful, yes — but for us, they’re also meaningful.

Every bouquet we harvest is a reminder that God still creates beauty from the ground up.

That He still brings life from what looks empty. That He still makes a way in seasons where we feel unsure.

Our prayer is that when you see our flowers — whether you’re picking up a bouquet, receiving a subscription, or using blooms for a wedding or special event — you don’t just see something pretty.

We hope you feel something deeper:

  • hope

  • peace

  • joy

  • and the gentle reminder that God is faithful

Because this farm isn’t just about flowers.

It’s about trusting God with the dream… and letting Him lead the way.

If You’re in a Season of Waiting… This Is For You

If you’re standing in your own “field” right now — planting seeds and wondering if they’ll ever bloom — let this verse meet you where you are:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Not half. Not sometimes. All.

Lean not on your own understanding. Because you don’t need to have it all figured out to move forward.

In all your ways acknowledge Him. Invite Him into the daily work, the decisions, the worries, the dreams. And then rest in this promise:

He will direct your paths.

So many good points here..the waiting, growing, and steps of faith. “ because you don’t need. to have it all figured out to move forward.” .. this really jumps out at me.

I love this verse! Trust in Hebrew is the word is batach. Batach isn’t just a feeling, but a decision to trust. The cool part is they liken the word to a strong clinging like to a vine for support. It’s action and decisive determination to hold steadfast to the Lord, not just in times of trouble but our everyday lives. I’m learning the more I do this, the easier it becomes. Thank you Jen, for your beautiful posts.
