The Execution of Jesus Is the Execution of God’s Plan

There is something sobering about the word execution.
By definition, execution means the act of carrying out a sentence of death on someone judged guilty. It also means the act of putting a plan into action — bringing something to completion.
One word.
Two meanings.
And at the cross, both were happening at the same time.
Jesus was executed — publicly, painfully, and unjustly.
A sentence carried out by human hands.
But at that very same moment, something deeper was unfolding:
God's plan was being executed.
Not interrupted.
Not delayed.
Not falling apart.
But fulfilled.
What looked like the execution of a man…
was actually the execution of God’s plan.
When It Looked Like Everything Was Falling Apart
If you had stood at the foot of the cross, nothing about that moment would have looked like victory.
The sky darkened.
The crowds mocked.
The disciples scattered.
Hope seemed to be buried with Him.
It would have felt like failure. Like God had lost control.
But heaven was not reacting...
Heaven was fulfilling.
The Plan Was Never Broken
Jesus was not caught off guard.
He was not a victim of circumstances.
From the very beginning, this moment was written into the story of redemption.
Every step He took toward the cross was intentional.
Every word He spoke carried purpose.
Every drop of blood was part of a divine plan unfolding.
The cross was not a disruption.
It was a design.
What Looked Like Defeat Was Deliverance
In farming, we understand something about this kind of mystery.
Seeds must be buried before they grow.
Fields must be broken before they produce.
What looks like an ending is often the beginning of something unseen.
Jesus spoke of this Himself:
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” — John 12:24
The cross looked like death.
But it was planting life.

The Execution That Opened the Door
On that cross, something far greater than a man’s life was taking place.
Sin was being paid for.
Grace was being released.
A door was being opened that no one could shut.
What the enemy meant for destruction, God used for redemption.
The execution of Jesus became an invitation for us.
An invitation into forgiveness.
Into freedom.
Into eternal life.
Where Do We Stand?
This is not just a story to reflect on.
It is a reality that asks us a question:
If His death was execution of God's plan... what does that mean for us today?
Because the cross was not the end of Jesus.
And it doesn’t have to be the end of us either.
If we were to leave this earth today —
Where are we going?
Eternal life with Jesus?
Or separation from Him?
The cross made the way.
But we still have to choose it.
Reflection
The execution of Jesus was not the end of hope — it was the moment hope was secured forever. What looked like loss was love in its fullest form, unfolding exactly as God had planned, so that no soul would be without a way back home.
A Verse to Ponder
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5
Closing Prayer
Father God,
Thank You that what looked like the darkest moment in history was actually the greatest act of love.
Thank You that Jesus did not die in vain, but in purpose.
Help us to truly understand the weight of the cross — not just in our minds, but in our hearts.
Let us not take lightly the price that was paid for our salvation.
And if there is any part of us still unsure, still wandering, still holding back — draw us closer to You.
Remind us that the door is open.
That grace is available.
And that through Jesus, we are invited into eternal life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
May this resurrection day remind us that the grave is empty and the way is open and Jesus has risen from the dead — defeating the enemy once and for all...
and honestly, every day we should be living like we believe it!
with love,
