When Snow Lets Us Be Children Again

There’s something sacred about a snow day.

The world slows. Calendars loosen their grip. Notifications feel quieter. For a moment, the weight of responsibility lifts, and we’re invited, almost without permission, to be children again. We watch flakes fall like heaven’s confetti, laugh at how quickly plans disappear, and step outside just to feel the cold on our cheeks.
Snow doesn’t ask us to solve problems. It simply asks us to be present.
In those moments, life feels lighter — not because problems are gone, but because they’re paused. We remember what it’s like to delight in something simple. To marvel. To rest.
Jesus spoke directly to this childlike posture of the heart:
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 18:3
Children don’t carry tomorrow’s worries into today. They don’t rehearse yesterday’s mistakes. They trust. They wonder. They play. And snow days seem to whisper the same invitation to us: let go — just for a moment.
Jesus also reminds us:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34
Maybe snow is God’s quiet reminder that rest is holy. That joy doesn’t have to be earned. That it’s okay to stop striving and simply receive the beauty placed right in front of us.

So if today is a snow day — step outside. Laugh louder. Watch the sky. Let your soul breathe. And remember: sometimes faith looks less like having all the answers and more like trusting enough to enjoy the moment God has given you.
Just like a child would.
Prayer from Our Family to Your Home
Lord, thank You for snow days and simple joys. Help our hearts slow down and our worries fade. Teach us to trust You like children do — to laugh, to rest, and to enjoy the gift of today. May our homes be filled with peace, our hearts with gratitude, and our lives with wonder.
In Jesus' Mighty and Holy Name, Amen.
With love,
